Mossberg Model 142K / Mfg. 1953 to 1957 / C&R OK

Offered for your purchasing consideration is a complete, very nice, clean, Mossberg Model 142K. Manufactured from 1953 to 1957, the 142K was the final cataloged variation of the 142 series. It is in exceptional condition showing only the lightest of handling marks and a few white paint specks on the butt stock and for end. I would rate the metal and wood finish to be in the 90% range or possibly a bit higher. Not too bad for a rifle that is between 59 to 63 years old.

The Mossberg Model 142A was first manufactured in 1949. There is also a model 142 which has no letter suffix and a rarely encountered Model 142M that was never listed in Mossberg catalogs of the period. This is thought to have happened because the 142M was a “transitional model” which was manufactured from surplus 142 components as well as components of models in production at that time. According to published production charts, there were just over 1,000 of these rifles manufactured. Mossberg was a very frugally operated company.

This model 142K has an 18 inch barrel, seven round magazine, and is chambered for the .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges. It also features a plain walnut stock with a fold down fore end and nice grain pattern, sling swivels, leather sling, adjustable trigger, as well as a NRA branded 3X9X40m/m scope. The iron sights consist of a Mossberg S134 sight, and a S133 front sight.
